After watching this movie, I researched John Wayne Gacy to see if the movie added up to the real story. A few things are for certain...
John Wayne Gacy was born on March 17, 1942 in Chicago, IL. His alter egos were "Pogo the Clown", "John Gacy", "Jack Hanson", and "Killer Klown". Throughout his childhood he suffered abuse. After realizing he was attracted to men, he experienced turmoil over his sexuality. In 1968, Gacy was convicted of sexual assault, and was found to have murdered over 30 young men. Most of the bodies were buried under his own home.
This alone creeps me the heck out. Knowing these facts. Now, to the movie...
"Gacy" certainly delivered along the basis of the story. Mark Holton certainly brings the character of John Wayne Gacy alive. He hired young men to do jobs for him around the house. He lures them to his home, where they become his prey.
Now, while you don't witness any sexual activity in the movie, his actions would suggest that he is homosexual. He looks at young men with lust in his eyes, but the movie doesn't go into detail there (whew!).
Given the nature of the film and it's purpose and relevance, I should be sympathetic. But given the events of what suppsedly happens, it's easy to turn a cheek here-or-there.
It is a decent watch for those who haven't seen it. Check it out on Netflix.
